A sophisticated Seibel customer relationship management system (VISITS) and one of the most comprehensive set of consumer facing travel Web sites on the Internet are just two reasons Montana Promotion Division is recognized leader in the area of online marketing.

In order to maintain this competitive advantage in electronic marketing the Montana Promotion Division uses cutting-edge technologies to create state-of-the-art information dissemination systems. These systems are designed to complement Montana Promotion Division’s traditional consumer marketing efforts. Electronic marketing, especially the Internet, has proven to be a cost-effective way to disseminate timely information to Montana residents and potential visitors and will continue to play a crucial role in Montana Promotion Division’s marketing efforts.

The major goals of the Electronic Marketing group include working cooperatively with local communities to gather information, build a comprehensive Oracle database of tourism related sites, services and events and, utilizing emerging technologies, develop innovative systems for disseminating Montana travel information while providing a high level of customer service fulfilling visitor information requests.

Internet Sites

During the past few years, Montana Promotion Division has developed 12 varied and advanced Web sites including visitmt.com, skimt.com, montanakids.com and lewisandclark.state.mt.us. These sites allow people throughout the world to view photos, read text, and watch video segments about Montana from the comfort of their homes and offices. These Web sites continue to change the way Montana Promotion Division receives and responds to inquiries and requests for travel information. Today, the vast majority of our inquiries come to us via the Internet.

In addition to our Web sites the Montana Promotion Division hosts 14 sites for our marketing partners Regions, CVBs and Chambers.

During 2005 Montana Promotion Division’s main consumer Web sites had nearly 8.5 million visitors. In 2006, nearly 20,000 people visit our primary Web site, http://www.visitmt.com, each day.

Technical Support

In recent years, Montana Promotion Division programs have become increasingly reliant on computer technologies. To ensure that Montana Promotion Division staff is able to take advantage of these new tools, it is imperative for the Electronic Marketing group to assist with development and implementation of these new technologies. We provide technical support for Montana Promotion Division staff and the certified Visitor Information Centers.

Visitor Information Centers

In cooperation with communities, Montana Promotion Division provides Visitor Information Centers located at eight operational sites: Broadus, Culbertson, Dillon, Hardin, St. Regis, West Yellowstone, Wibaux, and Shelby. Sites were identified in a study presented to the 1991 Legislature.

Montana Promotion Division has an agreement with a nonprofit organization in each community to provide an outdoor kiosk, computer and database, office furniture, TV/VCR, brochures, training, and $15,000 annually to assist with staffing. Communities provide the buildings, their maintenance, and additional staffing and volunteers if needed. In the spring, Montana Promotion Division offers training open to anyone providing visitor information.

Support, form Electronic Marketing, includes satellite Internet access, a countertop computer for visitors to use to gather travel information, wireless Internet access for visitors and an office computer and printer.
